Cycle 6, Episodes 12: "The Girls Go to Phuket"
Furonda is gone and Jade is shaken about being in the bottom two YET AGAIN. This was her FOURTH TIME.

Joanie is skeptical of Sara wanting this as much as the other three because she was discovered in a mall. I think Joanie’s being a hater. I wish I was discovered in a mall or at a McDonald’s.
The models go to a temple to meet Pichita Rucksajit who is a former model and a designer.

She gives them their go-see assignment. They must meet with a set list of designers and be back by 4:30 p.m. They are given about $65 to buy gifts to present to the designers they meet with since that’s Thai custom.
They rush around in tuktuks, a word Jade can’t pronounce.
She looks like such a diva riding around in hers.
She continues her hate for Joanie.
One of the designers makes them wear large masks with underwear to go with the theme of “Alice in Wonderland”.

ALL FOUR models are late. Jade is the last one and she gets there at 5:40 p.m.
Pichita tells them the designer feedback
Sara has potential but comes across as stiff.
Danielle is told her appearance could use some work.
Jade is not as nice as the other girls.
Joanie doesn’t stand out.
Despite her bad appearance (?), Pichita tells Danielle she would have won if she were on time. But since no one was on time, all the clothes the winner would have gotten as the prize go back to the designers.
The models are told they’re going to Phuket, another part of Thailand. This is weird because no judge comes out to announce this. They just get a Tyra mail and hop on their animated plane the next day.
Tyra joins them at their villa and gives them a history lesson about the tsunami on December 26, 2004. At least 225,000 people were killed, including nearly 6,000 people on Phuket. Tyra leads them in a moment of silence. When they filmed this episode, it had only been about a year since the tsunami!
I appreciate that the show and Tyra reference the disaster, but I don’t think Tyra has the right to lead a remembrance ceremony. Bring in a local.
Their photoshoot this week is for Elle Girl magazine and Amp’d Mobile. Nigel is the photographer. It’s a basic swimwear, Sports Illustrated-esque shoot.
Because of the partnership with Amp’d, people can download the photos from this week on their flip phones. Too bad Amp’d filed for bankruptcy and shut down in 2007.
They fly back to Bangkok for judging.
Tyra’s photo is so strange. Let go of that fringe bathing suit curtain, Miss Thing!
Overall, the photos this week are really good. The colors pop well, but I think the background could be at any beach. Could have saved money if you sent them to Galveston, ANTM!
Danielle looks great, but her hair could have been styled better. The judges say it’s too “men’s magazine”.
Sara has the best swimsuit, but it seems more like a still from a Scarlett Johansson movie.
Jade’s photo looks like it’s a poster for the moody sequel to The Beach.
Joanie has the worst photo this week, in my opinion. I like the look and how she’s not wearing much makeup. The face is too vacant for me and I wish she didn’t have her belly button stud in.
The judges disagree with me and give Joanie top photo. Danielle and Sara end up in the bottom. Tyra says Sara’s the most improved but harps on her not making enough progress to compete with the rest of the models. And all they can fault Danielle for is her speech. Sara goes home and takes it super well. I’m forever a Sara Stan.
After her elimination, Sara got signed by Elite Model Management. Not bad for someone who got discovered at a mall.
She eventually did follow her dream of becoming a lawyer and now works as a trial attorney at the Department of Justice!
She lives in Washington, DC, so maybe I’ll cross paths with her someday.
How many people has she thrown the book at??
Thanks for reading and I hope to see you back here for the Cycle 6 CoverGirl shoot and finale!
