Cycle 6, Episodes 4: "The Girl Who Kissed the Roach"
We start off the episode with the models digesting the previous elimination. Most people guessed Jade would be in the bottom because of her stank attitude. So she better shape up.
Furonda’s weave appears to have shifted into a terrible combover.
Gina is stressed out by how dirty the model house is.
Danielle, who says she has seen some “hard knocks”, gives Gina good advice to stay true to herself but not let things (like the cleanliness of the house) get under her skin.
Gina takes this as an invitation to follow Danielle around like a lost puppy.
Miss J a.k.a. Runway Diva Coach Extraordinaire gives the contestants a lesson on walking. Compared to other cycles, it’s a pretty tame lesson. Miss J is just wearing a floor length maxi dress that says “America’s Next Top Model”.
He has the models wear long dresses themselves for catwalk practice. None of them are standout walkers. But I still find Sara so striking.
Miss J tells everyone they’re walking too safe and that’s that.
Kari is homesick and cries on the phone to her parents.
They get a Tyra Mail that says “gromphodorina portentosa”.
They rack their brains trying to figure it out. Their guesses are that they’re going to Spain or they’re going to wear “fat hats”.
But the mini challenge for the week ends up being a Jared Gold fashion show for his collection Glinka, which he describes as “psychedelic, babushka acid witch”.
The outfits are pretty cute, but the twist is that they have to wear cockroaches (gromphodorina portentosa) on the runway. The cockroaches are bedazzled and on “leashes”. I hate it.
They walk for a handful of people Jared calls his “style panel” and an empty room of chairs.
They do Sara dirty with this hair.
Furonda walks arm first.
Gina full throat screams backstage because she’s so afraid. It’s insufferable watching her.
Jade looks great and even kisses the roach. She wins the challenge.
For her win, she gets to take four friends to the Sheri Bodell fashion show at LA Fashion Week.
The photoshoot this week is modern day fairy tale characters falling. It has nothing to do with anything. These are the assignments:
Jade - Little Red Riding Hood
Joanie - Cinderella
Furonda - Rapunzel
Sara - Gretel from “Hansel and Gretel”
Gina - Sleeping Beauty
Mollie Sue - Little Boy Blue
Leslie - Big Bad Wolf
Brooke - The Emperor’s New Clothes
Kari - Goldilocks
Nnenna - The Princess and the Frog
Danielle - Snow
WhiteBlack
I always appreciate an appearance from Sutan a.k.a. Raja Gemini.
They appear to be falling onto a palette of boxes. The sound makes me flinch every time.
Tyra’s photo this week is the Little Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe.
Her head looks disproportionately large for her body and she didn’t have to fall onto a slab of trash.
The challenge at judging this week has not aged well. In the style of of a Vivienne Westwood show, the models must walk in super high platform heels. Their ankles look like they break when they fall.
Kari in particular struggles.
Danielle falls at the very end of the runway and crawls backstage.
Four people have to help her lay on the couch and Sara’s thong pops out.
Danielle ends up straining her pinky toe and has to stand with crutches for the rest of panel.
Tyra cosplays as caring.
Then maybe don’t make them do it??
The photos are fine, but I don’t understand the need for them to be physically falling. Maybe they could have had a harness for it to not be so jarring for their bodies.
My favorites are:
Gina and Kari end up in the bottom. Gina should go home. She’s doing horrible at everything. Everyone wants her to go. But to keep the Gina saga alive and act like she has any chance of improving, the show eliminates Kari.
After the competition, Kari didn’t do any modeling. It’s rumored that she’s the cousin of Cycle 5 winner Nicole. I can definitely see the resemblance.

Kari now seems to live a normal life with a husband and at least three children.
Thanks for reading and I hope to see you back here for Cycle 6, Episode 5!
