Cycle 8, Episode 4: "The Girl Who Cries All the Time"
The two plus size girls (Whitney and Diana) are getting along despite the show wanting them to be rivals. We see them here sitting outside the model house with an ashtray.
The models get a Tyra Mail saying that they’re going to “get cut” a.k.a. it’s time for makeovers!
Brittany makes it seem like she’s a chill girlie open to any hairstyle.
We’ll see…
They roll up to the salon at 6:30 a.m.

Tyra comes out in her PJs acting the most.
She gives all the haircut assignments and then acts a fool as the Js cut her wig up.
Tyra told Sarah she was going to be a dirty blonde to give her dimension, but I think they went too dark.
Dionne is so stunning! They could have given her any haircut and she would look beautiful. Those kitty cat eyes!
Cassandra got the wig that was sewn to her head taken out and a curly weave put in. I still don’t think it’s the best hair for her.
Jaslene’s haircut didn’t seem that extreme, but it really makes her look more like a model.
I think Renee’s haircut gave her a style where she lacked one before. But the more I look at it, the more I don’t like it.
Felicia did need her color darkened and the bangs were a good idea. However, it looks black when it should have been medium brown.
Natasha got the Cleopatra makeover.
It’s looks insane in this picture. But she’s definitely confident about it.
Brittany’s hair was dyed red and she got a weave. She complained the whole time and it does not seem worth the effort.
Just give her a wig or some extensions.
I figured out that she reminds me of Deputy Trudy Wiegel from Reno 911!
Whitney looks the same.
Same for Diana.
Tyra told Jael she was getting a long brown weave. So she spends 8 hours getting her hair put in only for Mr. Jay to tell that he consulted with Tyra again and it’s not working. They’re going to take the entire thing out.
She’s rightfully upset. I think Jael probably can take a lot with a smile on her face. But this was too much.
Her final look is good. But again, when in doubt, use wigs!
Miss J gets in on the action.
So edgy!
To add to Jael’s horrible week, she finds out that a good friend of hers back home died of a drug overdose.

She goes into this spiral. It’s heartbreaking to watch her mourn in real time. I believe she should have been sent home because this is too much to handle in a pressure cooker environment like a reality TV show. But she stays!
The models are taken to a garden and meet with CoverGirl makeup artist Roxanna Floyd and Seventeen magazine entertainment director Carissa Rosenberg.

For their challenge, they are given dresses but have to do their makeup from CoverGirl’s Spring Color Collection running around in this garden.
Cassandra is late and gets disqualified.
None of the models really look like they’re wearing makeup. Despite “feeling sick” with “digestive issues”, Brittany wins the challenge. You know she had diarrhea.
Could we run a brush through the weave?
Brittany chooses Jael and Sarah to share her win with her because they convinced her to not sit the challenge out. They all get to be in a spread in Seventeen.
For the shoot, they model ugly “hair accessories” a.k.a. headbands.
Renee hates Brittany.
The house is getting tired of Brittany crying all the time. Brittany overhears Renee and Diana talking about her and calls Renee out.

Renee then walks away and flips her off through the door lol.
I love it.
Jael continues to mourn the loss of her friend, and it’s so sad to watch.
Whitney leads a little prayer with Jael. It’s very sweet. Whitney comes across as mature and considerate of others.
These models won’t stop smoking!

Their photoshoot concept is that they’ll be covered in candy and ice cream, posing with fake ice cream sundaes. Brittany instantly gets upset knowing that she has to get naked and that her family will find out about it. It’s more and more strange to me how worked up some of the contestants on this show get knowing they’ll have to be nude on set. Like, the final image won’t show your naked body. And being a model, you seem to constantly be naked around other people when you’re changing, etc.
Get over it, Shannon!
On top of worrying about her parents knowing she posed nude, Brittany freaks out thinking about holding the ice cream.
Felicia’s response: “Nobody’s hand is.”
Each of the models gets an assigned candy or cake or ice cream(?):
Cassandra - jelly beans
Sarah - hard candy
Dionne - candy cane
Diana - gummy bears
Renee - candy necklace
Whitney - chocolate kiss
Jael - birthday cake
Felicia - lollipop
Jaslene - dulce de leche (for the Latina girl?)
Natasha - gumballs
Brittany - banana split
Speaking of ice cream, an update on SMiZE & DREAM:
I’m on their newsletter list and these emails are so out of control. Like please get an editor!
The main takeaway is that Tyra’s ice cream shop is now in Sydney, Australia for a limited time.
This Instagram ad makes it look like she’s holding something X-rated.
But back to Top Model. We’re at panel.
When Jael is critiqued, she starts crying. To the judges, it’s seemingly out of nowhere.
In a heartwarming way, she turns around to the other models who tell her it’s ok. It’s like Jael’s unsure whether she should tell the judges her friend passed away or if that will seem like an excuse. They’re all very reassuring.
Jael says, “A friend of mine passed away and I’m having a hard time about it.”
Tyra reacts sincerely and appropriately.
She adds, “this is the one time when it’s ok to not be a model.”
I still think Jael should have been forced to go home.
Whitney looks incredible just standing at panel.
Cassandra’s shoe choice is wild. Why are they tied over the jeans?
My favorites:
I don’t know if it’s the editing or if just a severe angle, but Jaslene’s waist in her photo is TOO TINY.
Where are the internal organs??
The final two comes down to Cassandra and Diana. Cassandra’s sent home for not taking amazing photos. The whole house loves her. Whitney is really affected by the elimination.
Cassandra seems like a sweet person. After the show, she’s continued to model and has turned out some much better photos than on ANTM.
Go on, Cassandra!
Thanks for reading and I hope to see you back here for Cycle 8, Episode 5!
