Cycle 5, Episode 7: "The Girls Who Are 1940s Pin-ups"
Nik and Jayla are still mad over who’s REALLY afraid of the dark and sleeps with a nightlight.
Tyra comes over to the model house to do an impromptu photoshoot. Her weapon of choice: a blob of Vaseline.
Tyra says she and her model friends sometimes do these shoots as a hobby. I usually just watch TV or do a puzzle.
These photos turn out better than the ones from the actual challenge this week.
Nicole and Nik look great.
Everyone else - not so much. Why are they blurry??

Jayla’s face
A reminder that Kim had a situation-ship thing with Sara a couple of weeks ago. Now, she seems to be “talking” more with Kyle.
Instead of Paris, the models go to bootcamp and do a military-style obstacle course that involves mud…
…and weird face paint.
This mentality about working out just to “not be fat” is so outdated.
It’s a shame Jayla doesn’t exercise and smokes cigarettes.
Nik’s ass keeps falling out. Why is the drawstring on her pants not working?
To make this a weirder challenge, they then get bussed to a go-see with Vogue in their muddy-ass clothes.
Lisa wins the challenge and gets a fashion tutorial with Todd Hallman. It’s pretty sterile.
Kim is bitter and says Lisa is the “least pretty” of everyone in the house.
Kim’s kind of the sneaky mean girl of the season.
Their photoshoot this week is for Ford Fusion. They’re 40s pinup girls and have to “ride that fine line of sexy versus sleazy,” as Mr. Jay says. He also tells them the winner of this cycle will have their photo from the shoot run as a real ad for Ford.
During the shoot, Mr. Jay tells Kim she looks “feminine and soft” although she sometimes slips into “butch”. I know if it’s a different time now, but I hate that the goals for models then was only to be feminine and there wasn’t more gender expression. Butch models exist.
At panel, Tyra challenges the models to pick outfits that make them look and feel sexy. Everyone’s pretty tame, but Jayla brings the sex.
Kim’s bra/undershirt is really weird. And you know she does not feel sexy in this.
From the photoshoot, my favorite pinups are Nik (although the judges say she’s not curvy enough).
And Kim in her “softer, more feminine” debut. I think I just like this hair length on her.
Bre and Kyle end up in the bottom. Bre is so pretty and has such a smooth voice and kind demeanor. But the judges are right that her photos have not been memorable so far. And same for Kyle except she has a less distinct personality. Kyle goes home.
After the show, Kyle modeled a little.
She’s back to being a blonde.
Kyle’s Instagram page is private like so many other contestants from this season. According to LinkedIn, she’s a senior sales consultant for an apartment company in Michigan.
